History and politics student, Jess Davis got the shock of her life when a trip to the loo changed her life forever with the unexpected arrival of a 5lb 5oz baby “My periods have always been irregular, so I didn’t really notice pregnancy. I had no symptoms of pregnancy at all.
“’I sometimes felt nauseous, but I had started taking a new prescription so I just put it down to my new medication. When he was born it was the biggest shock of my life – I thought I was dreaming at first. I named him Freddie Oliver Davis.”she said
When Jess woke up in severe ᴘᴀɪɴ. she realised that she couldn’t even lie down on her bed due to the ᴘᴀɪɴ.

She was supposed to be having a house party that night for her birthday. She intended to take a bath to relieve the ᴘᴀɪɴ, but wanted to go to the tolet more. She sat down, started to push in the tolet.
She recalled: “At no point did I think I was giving birth – I just knew I needed to push. At one point I felt tearing, but I didn’t know what it was, I just knew I needed to get it out. Hearing him cry and realising what had actually happened was just so surreal.’”
Jess enlisted the help of best friend Liv King, who told her to call an ᴀᴍʙᴜʟᴀɴᴄᴇ. She was taken to Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton, where baby Freddie was rushed away to be put in an incubator. Luckily, Jess’s mum was supportive and is excited to become a grandmother.
“It took a little while to get over the initial shock and adjust and bond with him, but now I’m over the moon. He is the most chilled baby ever, and he’s known as the quiet baby on the ward. My mum is the best person in the world, she’s been so supportive and she’s over the moon to be a grandma!” Jess said.
Being a mum is a huge life change, but it feels natural.
